Behind the Mud: Embracing the Mess on a Challenging Form<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Every form you throw on the wheel brings its own set of rules. For this project, I wanted to step away from standard vertical cylinders and try a classic, flared latte cup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It turns out that wide, sloping walls are a much tougher canvas. Carving and painting on an angle forces your hands to constantly adjust to the changing curve. But sticking with a wraparound design is always so much more interesting to me than leaving a blank space\u2014it keeps the piece alive from every angle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
