There is a specific kind of magic that happens when a piece leaves the studio and starts a life of its own. Usually, that means finding a home on someone’s dining table or mantle. But this week, one of my pieces took on a slightly different job—as a “spokes-horse” for our local pottery community!
I am so incredibly honored to share that my hand-painted horse plate was selected to be featured on the official handout for the Richmond Potters Club annual Spring Sale.

The Story Behind the Plate
This piece was a labor of love in layering. I wanted to capture the contrast between the quiet, steady gaze of the horse and the wild, fiery energy of its mane.
- The Palette: I used cool, stony greys for the profile to create a sense of calm, set against a “fire-and-amber” mane of oranges and golds.
- The Process: Achieving that sense of movement in the hair requires a lot of fine brushwork and patience with underglazes, ensuring the colors stay vibrant through the firing process.

If you’ve been following my journey at Little Beak Studio, you know how much this community means to me. This sale is a wonderful collaboration with the Weavers & Spinners Guild and the Gem and Mineral Society—it’s truly a celebration of local makers.

Seeing my work on this flyer makes me even more excited to set up my booth. I’ll have a fresh collection of pieces available, including some new experiments in carving and some of the “Echo of the Forest” styles I’ve been working on recently.
I can’t wait to see some familiar faces there!
