I’ve always been captivated by the shifting tides and the hypnotic, synchronized movement of a school of fish—that fluid dance of many that feels like a single living organism.

In this piece, I wanted to capture that pulse. I sculpted the handle to mimic the rugged tools of a fisherman—the toggle of a net or the cleat of a boat—grounding the piece in the reality of the coast. The body features rhythmic, carved notches that mirror the shimmering texture of a shoal darting through the blue. These “scales” are carved with a deliberate, organic frantic energy to maintain a sense of life in motion, coated in a pale glaze that evokes sun-drenched coastal waters.
I am quite pleased how this piece turns out.
When you hold this mug, you aren’t just holding ceramic; you’re holding a small, frozen moment of the sea’s eternal movement.
